Sahel: Civic Space and Civilian Rights

A dialogue on security, political transition and the space available to communities and defenders.

Purpose and scope

This initiative will bring regional perspectives into conversation with international human-rights standards.

Its public record will clearly separate convening plans from completed activities.

The initiative connects international standards with the institutional and regional context in which rights are experienced. It does not imply an operational presence or completed intervention where none has been documented.

How the work develops

Initial work organises reliable public sources, identifies the questions that require deeper inquiry and invites relevant expertise. Substantive outputs move through source review and editorial review before publication.

Where evidence is incomplete, WHRF will identify the gap instead of filling it with assumptions. Where perspectives differ, published work will distinguish established facts, attributed analysis and the foundation’s own institutional position.

Participation and safeguards

Researchers, institutions and people with relevant regional experience may submit a concise contribution proposal. Participation is assessed for expertise, independence, public value and sensitivity to the safety and agency of affected people.
